Walsh (Marty) is born in Boston.

The son of Irish immigrants John and Mary Walsh, Marty Walsh grows up on Taft Street, survives Burkitt’s lymphoma as a boy, attended St. Margaret’s School, Newman Prep School, and graduates Boston College. He moves to 12 Tuttle Street, joins Laborers” Union Local 223 in 1968 and is subsequently elected its president of the Boston Building Trades Council. Walsh serves in the Massachusetts House of Representatives (1998-2013), as mayor of Boston (2014-21 ), and U.S. Secretary of Labor (2021- ), then as director of the National Hockey League Players’ Association.
